Overview

The Korean Women’s Association (KWA) of Washington is a registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, established in 1972 to provide services to Korean wives of American servicemen. Over the years, KWA’s programs have expanded to meet the needs of people of many cultures and nationalities. Its special expertise is as providers of multi-cultural, multi-lingual services to people in need. The agency is recognized for its commitment to the community, ability to reach and provide services to marginalized groups, and capacity to serve various segments and sectors of Washington state’s diverse population.

 

Serving 150,000 People a Year

Since 1972, KWA has worked to meet the social and community service needs of nearly 150,000 individuals annually—serving people of 35 different nationalities. KWA’s more than 1,000 employees offer a wide range of support to serve the diverse needs of more than 9,200 people throughout the Puget Sound each month. Services are available to people living in Pierce, King, Snohomish, Thurston, Lewis, Mason, Clallam, Jefferson, Grays Harbor, Cowlitz, and Pacific counties.

Emphasis Helping Poor and Vulnerable People

KWA is a leader in innovative programs designed to enhance the quality of life for all people in need with an emphasis on helping non-English speaking immigrants. Many minorities face barriers of racism, language, poverty and vulnerability, and struggle with a limited understanding of and access to available services. KWA provides a helping hand, protection, and a pathway to inclusion and full participation in community life.

KWA offers the best in ethnic-based programming, providing children through seniors the opportunity for socialization and integration with people of similar interests, backgrounds, and languages. For people outside of the ethnic community, KWA’s specialized programming teaches about ethnicity and Asian-Pacific cultures and customs.

The agency has an extremely dedicated board of directors and staff who are deeply committed to its mission of providing social and human services to people in need and continuing its growth and service to the community by providing a broad range of social services to its clients.
