Helping Immigrants Become U.S. CitizensKWA’s Center for Citizenship and Immigration Services (CCIS) exists to primarily help immigrants and refugees become United States citizens.
The center's services include defending and advancing the rights of immigrants and refugees through community education, advocacy, and immigration legal services, especially those with low income. Since March 1997, CCIS has helped nearly 2,200 people become naturalized.
KWA naturalization instructor Vera Wedde says that there are many reasons why immigrants should become citizens. “The main benefit,” she believes, “is getting a job – or getting a higher paying job.”
CCIS offers assistance in the following areas:
-Naturalization application process
-Assistance with N400 application and translation service
-Citizenship English classes for very beginner to advanced
-Citizenship classes in six (6) languages:
-Civic question sheet for citizenship interview
-Citizenship interview preparation and practice
-Last minute interview practice and interview checklist
