Helping Immigrants Become U.S. Citizens

KWA’s Naturalization Program oversees immigration programs to help immigrants and refugees become United States citizens.

The purpose of these programs is to defend and advance the rights of immigrants and refugees through community education, advocacy, and immigration legal services to all persons, especially those with low income. Since March 1997, KWA’s Naturalization Program has helped nearly 2,200 people become naturalized.

Longtime KWA volunteer and employee, naturalization instructor Vera Wedde says one of the biggest benefits to those who take her citizenship class is the ability to get jobs once they become U.S. citizens. “The main benefit,” she says, “is getting a job – or getting a higher paying job.”
