“My late wife and I used to live in a garage. It was my daughter’s garage. Eventually, she needed her space and we needed a home. We tried to find somewhere to live for many years. It was really hard. Then, we found KWA’s Pacific Villa. This place is my home. It’s nice and quiet and peaceful. I get to socialize with a lot of people from different cultures.”
Housing: The Most Basic Of Human Needs
All of us live somewhere. The issue is HOW we live. The 1949 Housing Act promised a decent home and a suitable living environment for all families. This is an eloquent affirmation of housing’s place as the most basic of human needs. Regardless of its form, from single room occupancy to mansion, from White House to low-income apartments, housing represents a sanctuary for the human spirit, the quintessential shelter from all manner of storms. It is the central place in our lives, consuming the single largest share of our income, while symbolizing stability and security.
