– Beacon Senior Activity Center
– Lighthouse Senior Activity Center
At this time, both centers are closed due to the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. In an abundance of caution to our clients and customers of the senior centers, the City of Tacoma and the KWA determined it was best to keep these centers closed until further notice. Here is the notice from the City, click the title to see the enitre notice.
The City of Tacoma continues to make community health and safety a top priority. While there are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at either the Beacon (415 S. 13th St.) or Lighthouse (5016 A St.) Activity Centers, due to the increased health risk from COVID-19 to people over the age of 60, the City has determined that it would be in the best interest of senior participants to close the centers beginning tomorrow, March 11, 2020 at 8 a.m.
The City is coordinating with program participants to identify support they may need during this closure.
The City will reevaluate the closure by March 31, 2020 to determine if the centers can reopen in coordination with the social distancing and other recommendations from Tacoma Pierce County Health Department."
Center operating hours are 8 AM to 3 PM, Monday through Friday, with a daily lunch available which is provided by Catholic Community Services ($3.50 suggested donation).
Recreational programs include karaoke, bingo, nail care, quilting and wood carving. A variety of health, fitness, and personal enrichment activities are offered to encourage an active lifestyle, independence, healthy nutrition, and financial planning. Other services provided include benefits enrollment assistance, and health screenings for breast, cervical and colorectal cancers.
Free van transportation to both activity centers is available to seniors living within Tacoma. Contact either Lighthouse or Beacon senior activity centers directly to arrange transportation.
Centers follow the Tacoma Public School District’s recommendation for late start and closures during inclement weather. View the inclement weather policy.
