A New Way to Hire Workers – Drive-Thru Job Fair

September 25, 2020

Korean Women’s Association (KWA) explores a new way of hiring in collaboration with WorkSourceWA through a drive-through job fair on September 29, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at 123 E 96th St. Tacoma, WA 98445.

Throughout the pandemic, KWA has offered employment across western Washington, but the risk associated with in-person meetings presented a challenge for our organization and others is essential worker positions. KWA is working with a collaboration of WorkSourceWA professionals to create an innovative, contactless way of on-site hiring.

“The pandemic has forced us to change how we operate. KWA is hiring! We have jobs to offer people making a decent starting wage. We know people are looking for employment opportunities. KWA can help those that need jobs. Connecting the dots took some creative thinking but we’re trying to meet a mutual need for our community,” says Pete Ansara, CEO. “We’ve hosted and participated in virtual hiring events as well, and we’re looking forward to providing more opportunities for people to get hired.”

Ansara said their partnership with WorkSourceWA has been ongoing but this is the first event of it’s kind for the organization. It will look something like this. A prospective employee will:

  1. Drive up to the first tent, be greeted, and receive their application packet, benefits information, pen, swag, and hand-held flag.
  2. Driver moves to the KWA parking area and fills out the application, learns more about the benefits of working for KWA, and able to raise flag to ask questions or find out more information from employees in a safe way.
  3. When application is completed, driver raises flag, and will be provided an interview, and will have a contingent job offer of employment, if the they meet the requirements.
  4. Driver does not have to leave their car at any time.

While the KWA is a diverse organization providing multi-lingual, multi-ethnic social services across western Washington, its largest program is the In-Home Care program, which serves aging clients and individuals with disabilities who wish to remain in their homes. This program employs caregivers to provide a multitude of services at varying levels of need.

Reminders for potential event attendees: Please follow state and local guidelines for masks and hand sanitizer. KWA will adhere to masking, distancing, and sanitizing guidelines.
